What is a MEHKO?

A Microenterprise Home Kitchen Operation (MEHKO) is a program under California law that allows you to legally prepare and sell food directly from your home kitchen. No commercial kitchen required.

California's Retail Food Code Chapter 11.6 (AB 626) created this pathway specifically for home cooks who want to turn their cooking skills into a real business.

Good news: LA County has waived MEHKO application fees, making it free to apply for your permit.
